WATCH: Stephen Curry has a hilarious reaction to the reporter calling him Wardell

Stephen Curry has one of the most famous names in the sport, but technically it is not what appears on his birth certificate. At least, there is more than that. Stephen is actually Curry’s middle name. His full name is Wardell Stephen Curry II, in honor of his father, former NBA shooter Dell Curry, but in an effort to stand out on his own, he has gone through “Stephen” throughout his basketball career.

He obviously managed to distinguish himself using that name. Curry has won three NBA championships and two MVPs using the name Stephen, and he has become so synonymous with this that he hardly even uses the surname Curry. When fans refer to him, most of the time they just call him “Steph”.

But out of nowhere on Thursday, Atlético’s Marcus Thompson called him “Wardell” during a press conference, and Curry’s reaction was one of pure confusion.

Thompson is a veteran of the Warriors’ strike. What led him to call Curry “Wardell” is unknown, but if nothing else, he managed to get the superstar’s attention. He went on to ask a question about the relegation of Kelly Oubre Jr., but the result of that press conference will forever be Curry’s reaction to hearing his own name. Although he was knocked down for a moment, Curry finally came back and answered the question. Still, in the meme-centric NBA world we live in, that image of Curry is destined for immortality on Twitter.
