Governor John Bel Edwards is scheduled to share the latest updates on the launch of the coronavirus vaccine in Louisiana at a news conference on Tuesday.
An email sent to independent pharmacies on Monday night from The Advocate says Edwards and other Louisiana officials are expected to announce a major expansion in vaccine eligibility.

The new criteria state that the new eligibility group would include adults of all ages who meet specific criteria that place them at increased risk for serious disease of the new coronavirus.
Vaccines should be available to the new eligibility group immediately after Edwards’ official announcement.
Among those who would qualify for the vaccine, the email said, are individuals aged 16 or over for the Pfizer vaccine or 18 years or older for the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines with the following conditions:
- moderate to severe asthma
- Cerebrovascular disease
- cystic fibrosis
- hypertension or high blood pressure
- immunocompromised state due to blood or bone marrow transplantation, immune deficiencies, HIV, use of corticosteroids or use of other drugs to weaken the immune system
- neurological conditions such as dementia
- liver disease
- overweight
- pulmonary fibrosis
- thalassemia
- type 1 diabetes mellitus
The vaccines would also be available to anyone in the same age group who works in a cohabitation unit, such as a prison, shelter or group home, according to the email.
“We know that people want to be vaccinated so they can get back to doing the things they like with the people they love.”
