[WATCH] Kate McKinnon on what still works at the SNL Cold Open

Saturday Night Live came back from the hiatus last night with his first cold post-Trump opening (and thankfully free from Alec Baldwin), addressing the news for a month through a segment called “What still works?” Kate McKinnon explains: “It’s a new year and we have a new president, so some things should work, but do they work?” She brings in a cast of characters to determine what still works, starting with Cecily Strong in the role she was born to play, QAnon congressman and enthusiast Marjorie Taylor Greene. Strong-as-Greene has thoughts about the shooting in Parkland (“Teachers were actors and children were puppets”), as well as, of course, 9/11 (“Has anyone really seen this happen?”). Other guests include Pete Davidson as Derrick Boner, majority shareholder of Gamestop, along with Mikey Day and Alex Moffat as Jack Dorsey and Mark Zuckerberg, respectively. The open chill ends with the worrying and unsurprising realization that nothing still works, but at least we still have Kate McKinnon telling Day-as-Dorsey that her beard “is working in terms of keeping me a lesbian.”
