The Microsoft Flight Simulator video game series is likely to have an add-on for the F-15 Eagle fighter this month, after an outsourced team of developers decided to work on introducing it to the platform.

Microsoft Flight Simulator, also known as MSFS or FS, is a series of amateur flight simulator programs for Microsoft Windows operating systems.

Being one of the first products in Microsoft’s application portfolio, the series is one of the oldest, best known and one of the most comprehensive home flight simulators currently available on the market.

The reports suggest that the complementary feature, which was developed by DC Designs, may be available to consumers as early as January 18.

According to reports, the F-18 add-on will come along with four variants of the fourth generation American-made fighter jet – F-15C (air superiority), F-15 D (trailer with combat capability), F-15 E (Strike Eagle) and F-15 I (a variant used by the Israel Defense Forces).

In the game, although virtual pilots are able to select and load ammunition, it is not clear whether pilots would have access to fire weapons or launch other types of payloads.

An F-15 jet fighter

Developed by American aerospace giant McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing), the F-15 Eagle is an all-weather tactical fighter that was designed in 1967 to meet the United States Air Force’s need for a dedicated air superiority fighter.

The fighter is armed with air-to-air missiles that can be launched beyond visual range and have the air-to-ground capability to penetrate hostile air and ground defenses to launch up to 24,000 pounds of precision artillery.

“The F-15 is an affordable, low-risk solution that maintains capacity and adds the capability of the U.S. Air Force while preserving Air Superiority and National Defense missions,” says a statement released by Boeing.

“Today’s F-15 offers next generation technologies, including an advanced cockpit, AESA radar, digital electronic warfare suite, the world’s fastest mission computer and modern sensors to stay ahead of current and evolving threats. With more speed, more range and more payload, the undefeated F-15 is ready for combat today, ”he said.

While the jet fighter is capable of reaching a top speed of Mach 2.5 (about 2,000 mph), DC Designs mentioned that Microsoft Flight Simulator currently has a barrier to prevent virtual pilots from reaching that speed in the game.

However, according to sources, once the barrier was removed, users would have no problem achieving these speeds in the jet fighter.
