Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell speaks Thursday in a virtual chat organized by the Princeton University Bendheim Finance Center.

The conversation comes at a crucial time for the Federal Reserve, which in December committed to its current policy until it saw substantial progress on its inflation and employment targets.

As part of its response to the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Fed has cut its benchmark short-term loan rate to almost zero and is buying at least $ 120 billion in bonds a month. In recent speeches, some Fed officials said they see the economy recovering strongly this year, possibly pushing for the removal of some of the accommodations.
