John Calipari is not happy with his team’s performance, specifically, as his team delivered the game in defeat to Georgia, the third consecutive defeat in a conference game. Asked to explain what he told the team to avoid further discouragement after such an overwhelming defeat, Calipari knocked back, “I need someone to talk to me because I’m discouraged. “
“What did I just see? The way we finished the game? The photo selection at the end? Free throws, turns – just throw the ball at them for layups? We gave them 20 points on turnovers by throwing the ball at them. I am discouraged. “
Calipari also said that the UK’s guard game was “terrible” and the defense was poor and that they could not win 50/50 balls, before pointing the finger back at themselves for finding the solution.
“You can see my frustration now, but I am the coach of the team and I have a job to do and we have to find out how we are going to win the games,” he said.
Part of getting things going in the right direction is finding guys he can consistently trust, and now that’s a problem. He wants to play six or seven guys, he says, “the problem is, who would they be?”
