The concept of forcing the new BMW M4 Competition to compete with a Porsche 911 on a drag track seems ridiculous. Of course, the thoroughbred will win the sports coupe that shares its basic DNA with a familiar diesel wagon. However, the specs favor the M4 Competition here: its 503 hp power shames the Porsche 380. And, as the Porsche Carrera non-S doesn’t even have the Sport Chrono package, there is no launch control. Therefore, according to the manufacturer’s figures, the M4 should dispatch 0-60 in 3.9 seconds, while Porsche will take 4.2 ticks for the same action. Once connected, the power advantage should provide an easy win.

All this rigid logic makes it even more interesting to watch the Porsche go away in the last video of the CAR Magazine. From the start, the rear-engine monster connects and catapults away from the BMW. It is clearly ahead in the 0-60 race, more evidence in the gigantic pile of information that suggests that Porsche intentionally bags its official performance numbers.
In fact, the 911 beats the M4 off the line when the driver of the M4 clearly gets a start in a better time. It closes the gap enough for the M4 to advance further down the track, but not before spending some time south of the 911’s taillights. Given similar prices, it would be interesting to see these two facing off on a suitable race track, but for now, you can check out our reviews of each one.
