Washington Wizards short-handed signal center Alex Len, Jordan Bell

WASHINGTON – The few Wizards signed free agent centers Alex Len and Jordan Bell on Saturday, trying to complete a list decimated by COVID-19 and wounded.

The Wizards have lost six games since a victory over the Phoenix Suns on January 11 made it 3-8. They are scheduled to play Sunday in San Antonio.

Six Washington players tested positive for COVID-19, and three other players were excluded after contact tracking determined that they may have been exposed to the virus.

Pivot Thomas Bryant is out of season with an injury to his left knee, and point guard Russell Westbrook is still suffering an injury to his left quadriceps.

Len, 2.10 m, averaged 7.9 points and 6.2 rebounds in 474 games over eight seasons with Phoenix, Atlanta, Sacramento and Toronto. He played seven games for the Raptors this season, averaging 2.3 points and 1.6 rebounds.

The 27-year-old Ukrainian played in Maryland before being Phoenix’s fifth overall choice in the 2013 draft.

The 1.8-meter Bell averaged 3.8 points and 3.1 rebounds in 154 games over three seasons with Golden State, Minnesota and Memphis. The 26-year-old had not played in the NBA this season.
