Washington state police, responding to a routine report on a suspicious vehicle on Thursday morning, found a scene straight out of a horror movie: the car was full of dismembered body parts and “meat-like” substances “said the authorities.
The 2014 Honda Accord abandoned in the small town of Othello may not have attracted much attention from passers-by, if not for a disturbing detail – it had blood stains on the hood.
“After further investigation into the vehicle, a deceased subject was discovered,” said a press release from the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.
From there, things quickly got worse when what appeared to be “meat” was found in the back seat, along with a human head sitting on the back floor, court documents say.
Police soon discovered more body parts in the vehicle’s trunk. Members are believed to belong to two different people.
“At the moment, the victims have not been identified positively due to the extent of the condition of the bodies,” Sheriff Dale Wagner said in a press release on Friday.
A 28-year-old man identified as Mauricio Nava-Garibay is in custody on suspicion of murder after being caught leaving the horrific crime scene. He reportedly told investigators that he had gotten into a fight with his girlfriend, Dora Martinez, at his home before luring her into a garage on the pretext of having a “gift” to give her. He then stabbed her several times in the neck and torso, punched her in the face and strangled her with an extension, he told detectives, according to the local news agency KIMA-TV.
Another woman identified as Guadalupe Martinez was reported to have entered the garage at this point, at which point Nava-Garibay pushed her onto the concrete floor and stabbed her in the back of the neck, according to several reports.
No further details are available on the relationship between the two women and the suspect.
“Investigations like these are very difficult and delicate. We appreciate any cooperation from our community, ”said Wagner.
