Washington LB Thomas Davis plans to retire after this season

Thomas Davis’ career is coming to an end.

Whether this happens this weekend depends on the Washington Football Team.

The veteran linebacker said in an Instagram post on Tuesday that Week 17 will be his last game in the regular season. Of course, Washington (6-9) could extend its season with a Sunday victory over the Eagles, which would seal the NFC East and a playoff game at home.

Otherwise, it will be the final game in Davis’ remarkable 16-year career. The first 14 came in Carolina, where the one chosen in Georgia’s first round of 2005 made three Pro Bowls and was an All-Pro in 2015, while leading a dominant Panthers defense for the Super Bowl. Davis accumulated 1,216 tackles, including 90 for loss, 29 sacks, 18 forced fumbles and 13 interceptions, leaving a mark on all three levels of several strong units.

Davis was also the 2014 Man of the Year, Walter Payton.

After spending the 2019 campaign with the Chargers, Davis met Ron Rivera in Washington earlier this year, although he was a healthy scrape for much of the season. Here is the hunch that he will enter the field at least once more on Sunday.
