The Washington Football Team will not change its name until the 2022 season, but the process will be documented through the recently launched WashingtonJourney.com website.
“We made the transition from our old name. Now it’s time to write a new legacy,” says the site. “Washington Football’s future arrives in 2022.”
The franchise was deliberate in its reformulation of the brand and follows a timeline with five stages. The last step, the execution, is the hope of unraveling a new name that will last “the next 100 years”.
The site also offers the opportunity for fans to submit ideas for a new name, with proposals including Generals, Justice and Rhinos.
The organization withdrew its previous name – which was a racist slander for Native Americans – in the last off-season, before announcing in July that it would join the Washington Football Team until a permanent name was chosen.
