Dwayne Haskins’ term in Washington is over.

The draft choice for the first round of Washington in 2019, Haskins was released today, according to the NFL Network.

The change comes after the last poor performance in a series of them by Haskins, who was once seen as the future quarterback of the Washington franchise, but quickly proved not up to the task, either on the field or outside.

Washington coach Ron Rivera was not involved in recruiting Haskins and clearly never convinced him, and this year Haskins was relegated to the third straight, first behind Kyle Allen and then Alex Smith. On Sunday and in the postseason, Washington plans to start Alex Smith, with Taylor Heinicke supporting him.

Haskins will now be available in exemptions for any team that wants it. If there is another team out there who scored in the first round at Haskins in next year’s draft, he may get exemptions claimed. But it wouldn’t be surprising if the rest of the NFL were as bad for Haskins as Rivera.
