Washington made it official on Tuesday morning, announcing that Jennifer King was promoted to assistant running back trainer.
She is the first black woman to work as a full-time technical assistant in the NFL. King spent the 2020 season as a training intern in Washington.
“Coach King deserves to be promoted to assistant coach of running backs. She came to Washington looking forward to the opportunity to work as a coaching intern all year and learn from our team, ”said coach Ron Rivera in a statement. “She had the opportunity to experience not only the work during the season that implies being a full-time technician in this league, but also the countless hours she spends preparing in the off-season. She demonstrated all the qualities needed to work full time on my team. She is a hard worker, a great communicator and a quality person.
“Coach King is always eager to learn and has shown great growth since he started here last season. I know she will continue to be an asset to [offensive coordinator Scott] Tornado, [running backs coach Randy] Jordan and the running back group, and she gained that opportunity with her hard work. The sky is really the limit for her. “
King first worked with Rivera as a wide receivers trainee trainer for the Panthers in 2018, and was a running backs trainee trainer in 2019. She also served as an offensive technical assistant for Dartmouth College in 2019, working primarily with wide receivers.
In addition, King was on the Arizona Hotshots technical team at the Alliance of American Football in 2019. She was the team’s assistant wide receiver coach and special team assistant.
King is the second woman to become a full-time technical assistant in the NFL, after Buccaneers assistant defensive line coach Lori Locust.
