Warriors recall Jordan Poole and Nico Mannion from the G League bubble

Jordan Poole and Nico Mannion are unlikely to play for Santa Cruz again this season, as the Warriors called the two guards on Monday.

The Golden State plays on the Portland Trail Blazers and the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively, before the NBA All-Star break comes.

I suppose it is possible that Poole and Mannion will return to the bubble if Santa Cruz has a playoff game next Monday, but that seems unlikely.

We may have some definitive answers on Tuesday, when Steve Kerr speaks to the media.

Poole averaged 22.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 4.4 turnovers in 11 games in the League G bubble, while shooting 45% of the field and 32.5% beyond the arc.

“The talent is there, and it is shown – whether on the scoreboard or in creating the game – these are hard-to-find skills and skills that we like when we select him,” Warriors basketball operations president Bob Myers told Dad Noel Kevin Danna of Cruz Warriors last week.

Mannion in nine games averaged 19.3 points, 6.8 assists, 3.3 rebounds, 1.8 steals and 3.3 turnovers. He shot 40.5% overall and 36% deep.

The 20-year-old set the season’s record with 27 points in Santa Cruz’s victory over the Austin Spurs on Sunday.

“Nico has been great, and I think what you saw of him is the same thing that we saw – the competitiveness, the desire, the winning moves,” said Myers last week. “[He’s] also learning from some mistakes and taking care of the ball and things like that.

“But he also has a bright future, great talent, a better athlete than people think.”

The Santa Cruz Warriors have won eight consecutive games and will be back in action on Tuesday morning against the Erie Bayhawks.

Coverage starts at 8:00 pm PT in the NBC Sports Bay Area.
