Warriors GM Bob Myers reviews Nico Mannion’s G League development

Nico Mannion was the second piece of the Warriors’ 2020 NBA Draft, with the organization selecting him in the 48th overall position. After signing a two-way contract, Mannion played six NBA games before joining the Santa Cruz Warriors for the G League bubble in Orlando, Florida.

Mannion played in six games for Santa Cruz inside the bubble, scoring 18.3 points and distributing 6.3 assists over 32.2 minutes per game. Warriors general manager Bob Myers joined the NBC Sports Bay Area broadcast of Monday’s game between Santa Cruz and Agua Caliente Clippers, and talked about how Mannion’s development progressed during his time in the G League.

“Nico has been great, and I think what you saw of him is the same thing that we saw, which is the competitiveness, the desire, the winning moves,” said Myers at halftime on Monday. “[He’s] also learning from some mistakes and taking care of the ball and things like that, but he also has a bright future, great talent, a better athlete than people think. “

The 19-year-old has struggled with turnover, as Myers mentioned, averaging 4.5 per game in the bubble.

The Warriors are 5-3 in the League G bubble and are currently in the playoff phase of eight teams.

Once the game is over in Orlando, the Warriors will likely want to give Mannion some chance in the NBA before the 2020-21 season ends.
