Warren Buffett and Berkshire Hathaway gain stake in this healthcare company

Warren Buffett and his company Berkshire Hathaway have increased their stake in DaVita Inc., a healthcare company specializing in kidney and kidney disease.

According to a regulatory document dated February 12 from the Securities and Exchange Commission, Berkshire Hathaway’s stake in DaVita is now 33%, with a total of 36,095,570 shares. Berkshire Hathway remains DaVita’s largest shareholder.

The move comes after Berkshire Hathway sold 2 million DaVita shares in September for $ 176 million, a price per share of $ 88, and just four days after DaVita reported fourth quarter net income of $ 173 , 77 million, or $ 1.50 per share compared to $ 244.87 million, or $ 1.88 per share, a year ago.

A 13-F lawsuit shows that Berkshire Hathway now owns 147.6 million shares of telecoms giant Verizon in late 2020. The position is valued at about $ 8.6 billion and is the sixth largest position in the company’s portfolio Berkshire. Apple still remains the largest shareholding in Berkshire Hathway, with a total of 907,559,761 shares with a value of around $ 120 billion at the end of 2020

Buffett also ended his investment in Barrick Gold Corp. Last August, the investment of more than $ 500 million raised many eyebrows on Wall Street, as Buffett was rarely a proponent of the precious metal.

As soon as Buffett bought for the company, his stock skyrocketed to its biggest high in 7 years. Barrick’s stock closed down on Tuesday, but has dropped more than 16% in the past three months.
