Warner Bros. sets 2023 release of ‘Willy Wonka’ prequel – Deadline

Warner Bros will be launching Wonka on March 17, 2023, a prequel by Roald Dahl Charlie and the chocolate factory which focuses on the youth of candy architect Willy Wonka before his pastry empire.

The film has been in development for about four years. David Heyman has always been connected as a producer, and Paddington director Paul King is directing. It is the beginning of this project and it will not be filmed while the UK is in blockade. The hope is for filming in September. No cast yet.

Paramount released the 1971 original first Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory film starring Gene Wilder in the title role, based on the classic Dahl. Warner Bros. remade Tim Burton in 2005, Charlie and the chocolate factory, starring Johnny Depp in a Michael Jackson-style twist, which grossed $ 475 million.

There is no other broad release date for March 17, 2023. Disney is holding March 10 of that year for an untitled live action movie. Universal and 20th Century Studios confirmed their presence on March 24 with untitled event films.
