A new hiss from Warner Bros. for 2021 it includes the first filming of Clint Eastwood in “Cry Macho” and of Will Smith in “King Richard”.
AT&T claims that the hybrid launch of “Wonder Woman 1984” at Christmas helped HBO Max to double its activations to 17.2 million in the fourth quarter of 2020, which may bode well for the streamer as “Wonder Woman” 1984 “was just the beginning of its controversial HBO model of maximum release. All Warner Bros. films. included in the studio’s slate 2021 will debut in theaters the same day they are available for broadcast on HBO Max for 31 days. Warner Bros. is publicizing the launch model with a 2021 reel full of new footage from more than a dozen major releases.
Included in the Warner Bros. trailer. 2021 is the filming of David Chase’s highly anticipated prequel to “Sopranos”, “The Many Saints of Newark”, which the studio recently postponed from March to September 24, 2021. The film stars Alessandro Nivola as Dickie Moltisanti, father of Christopher Moltisanti (Michael Imperioli) from the original HBO series, but it is young Tony Soprano who is at the front and center of the trailer footage (see image above). Young Tony is played by Michael Gandolfini, son of the late actor James Gandolfini, Tony Soprano.
In a recent interview with Variety, “Many Saints” actor John Magaro recalled meeting Chase for a role in the film and discovered that the creator of “Sopranos” was casting James Gandolfini’s son for the iconic role of his father. “I said, ‘No way,'” recalls Magaro. “And he said that he entered [and] they took the test, and it’s scary how similar they are not only in their appearance, but also in their manners. In addition, he is a fantastic actor. “
The 2021 hiss from Warner Bros. it also includes footage from James Wan’s original horror film “Malignant” (now dated September 10) and the third “Conjuring” film produced by Wan, with the subtitle “The Devil Made Me Do It”. The 2021 hiss also includes many previously seen images of Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune”, which means that the pillar is still going to HBO Max despite Villeneuve’s own criticisms of the decision. Legendary, the studio behind “Dune”, recently reached an agreement to allow the WB title “Godzilla vs. Kong” to be broadcast on HBO Max, but Villeneuve has been adamant about releasing “Dune” only in theaters , saying a change to HBO Max could “kill the franchise”.
No footage of “The Matrix 4” is included, but a title card confirms that the sequel is also set for a 2021 theater-HBO Max release. THR reported earlier this month that “Matrix” filmmaker Lana Wachowski was also upset about moving her film to HBO Max.
