Authorities are looking for a man accused of shooting a state police officer in the head Friday night in Texas.
Officials issued a alert Saturday to DeArthur Pinson Jr., 36, who they said should be “considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached. “
The officer, identified as Chad Walker, responded to “driver assistance” near Mexia, Texas, around 7:45 pm, when “he found an invalid vehicle parked on the side of the road”, according to a Texas post on the Facebook Department Association of Public Security Officers.
A man later “emerged from the driver’s seat of the disabled vehicle armed with a gun and fired several shots” at Walker through the patrol unit’s windshield after the officer stopped behind his vehicle, the statement said.
Walker was taken to a hospital with gunshot wounds to the head and abdomen. The soldier remains “in a stable but critical state,” according to the association.
The Texas Department of Public Security told KCEN-TV, an NBC affiliate in Temple, Texas, that the Facebook page where Walker was identified is a private group. The agency did not issue an official statement.
Anyone with information about Pinson’s whereabouts should call 911.
