Mass vaccination sites across the state of California need volunteers. For those who wish to obtain a vaccine before they qualify without committing an ethical offense, there may be opportunities in their area to volunteer for some time and receive a vaccine as a community health worker.
The state is launching the new MyTurnVolunteer website, which allows people with some medical experience or no experience to become receptionists, volunteer coordinators, registration desk attendants or dose administrators – people with medical or dental training and pharmacists can distribute injections .
“The quickest way to ensure the safety of Californians is to increase our state’s vaccination capabilities, and My Turn – Volunteer will provide the volunteer resources needed to quickly vaccinate all Californians in our fight against COVID-19,” said the state service director Josh Fryday in a statement.
Volunteers may have to sign up for eight-hour shifts at some locations, but some sites only require four-hour shifts.
Cristina Valdivia Aguilar, a spokesperson for California Volunteers, told SFGate: “If you volunteer for four hours or more, you are classified in one of the categories. You are classified as a community health worker on the workforce list. essential in California. “
Many volunteers at vaccination sites across the state were able to obtain their vaccines earlier – and in some of the larger locations, daily staffing needs are very large.
Aguilar says prospective volunteers should sign up and not be discouraged if they don’t see an opportunity available immediately. The site is new from Monday and more volunteer slots will be added in the coming days and weeks.
