WandaVision’s post-credit scenes configure three new MCU movies and programs

Warning: Contains SPOILERS for WandaVision episode 9, “The Series Finale”.

The events of WandaVision Episode 9, “The Series Finale, ends with two major post-credit scenes, each setting the future MCU for the main characters Scarlet Witch and Monica Rambeau, while incorporating broader franchise elements such as Skrulls and Nick Fury. WandaVision Season 1 (which will almost certainly be the only season in the series now) was gradually hitting its big showdown, with Agatha Harkness facing the Scarlet Witch, while Vision faced White Vision and SWORD tried to get into Hex and stop Wanda once and for all.

The battles and climatic revelations led to an emotional and satisfying ending for WandaVision: Agatha Harkness was defeated, with Scarlet Witch borrowing a trick from her to take her power and lock her up in Westview forever. SWORD director Tyler Hayward was also arrested, with great assists from Jimmy Woo and Darcy Lewis, while White Vision flew, presumably to return again in the future of the MCU.

The end of WandaVision it made Westview back to normal and meant that, somewhat inevitably, Wanda would have to say goodbye to Vision and the twins. But while there were no big cameos or shocking twists that some viewers might have expected, he ended his storyline while ensuring that there was enough groundwork for his future, especially in the post-credit scenes, which connect to everything from Secret Invasion and Captain Marvel 2 to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

WandaVision Episode 9’s Mid-Credits Scene: Monica, Skrulls and Nick Fury Setup

WandaVision, Episode 9, Skrull Post-Credit Scene

First, the WandaVision intermediate credits scene repeats a trick from Spider-Man’s post-credits scenes: Far From Home, with the reveal of yet another Skrull agent on Earth (this one played by Lori Livingston). Revealing herself to Monica Rambeau at the Westview cinema, Skrull claims it was sent by an “old friend” of Maria Rambeau, who heard that Monica was punished and wants to meet with her. When Monica asks “where?” Skrull points up, which means that all signs point to Nick Fury, continuing from that taunt in Far From Home.

When Spider-Man: Far From Home was released, it was assumed that Fury had set up (or joined) SWORD and was overseeing its operations in space, which was supported by the organization being featured on WandaVision. Director Hayward’s most villainous intentions seemed to change that, but since his Cataract Project was his own agenda, it is still plausible that Fury is working for SWORD as well. But whether they are themselves or their own new agency, Fury is clearly working closely with the Skrulls to help protect against extraterrestrial threats – something he has been concerned with for a long time – while also helping to infiltrate various governments and official organizations. in the land.

It has been confirmed that Secret Invasion will be happening at the MCU thanks to its own Disney + show, and that continues to build up to that. The Skrulls introduced in Captain Marvel were the good guys, but that will follow a rogue group working on Earth – so apparently, Fury is counterintelligence working to stop his goals, alongside the good Skrulls like Talos, who pretended to be Fury in Far from home. With Monica’s experience as an agent of SWORD, someone Fury knows he can definitely trust, and his new superpowers, then clearly she would be a great asset to work alongside him during the events of the Secret Invasion.

Likewise, it has also been confirmed that Monica will appear in Captain Marvel 2. Since the first film is the one that introduced the Skrulls to the MCU, then it makes sense that everything is connected. Monica’s appearance in Secret Invasion could lead to her meeting with Carol Danvers once again in Captain Marvel 2, as Fury and Danvers also have a long working relationship. With the middle credits scene from episode 9 of WandaVision, the dots connect very well for Monica’s future MCU and for her to become a true superhero who works alongside Fury and Captain Marvel to protect the world ( and beyond).

Post-Credit Scene from Episode 9 of WandaVision: Wanda Hearing The Twins Explained

Scarlet Witch in WandaVision Finale Post-Credits Scene

While the previous episodes had only one stinger, the ending of WandaVision has two post-credit scenes, and the second is even bigger. After she says goodbye to Vision, Billy, Tommy and Westview as a whole, he finds Wanda living very peacefully and remotely in a house by the lake, surrounded by vast mountains. It is a world away from Westview and, apparently, from anyone and anywhere else. But just as the first episodes of WandaVision introduced a fantasy world that gave way to a much more disturbing truth, there is also something strange and dark hidden behind Wanda’s new home.

Once again, Wanda is behind things, now projecting a different version of herself as the real one – still with the real new Scarlet Witch costume she gets at the end – is not just reading Darkhold – the book of magic that she took away Agatha – but she is very much in the middle of that and her magic. As Agatha suggests, Darkhold is an incredibly powerful artifact in its own right – also known as the Book of the Damned, it is full of black magic spells. Its power can corrupt the reader and even cause tears in reality itself. Since the book contains information about the Scarlet Witch, it is likely that Wanda is looking to find out exactly who and what she is, and clearly she has already learned some new skills from him, such as the ability to separate into two beings.

Even more curious – and sinister – is that Wanda listens to the twins, Billy and Tommy, asking her for help while she is reading Darkhold, which raises big questions about how Wanda is listening to the twins. One possibility is that, like what happened to Wanda creating Westview, her pain is affecting her so much that the structure of reality is starting to unravel around her, especially since she is now reading something so dangerous and powerful that she does not have one. complete understanding of. The twins’ voices may also suggest that they have been resurrected or taken to some other dimension – since, again, Darkhold can damage reality.

One villain who was previously teased is Nightmare, who was not just rumored by WandaVision, but Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and him having the twins in the Dimension of Dreams would be suitable as a setting for Doctor Strange 2, as well as a plausible reason for Wanda will be hearing your voices now. There were even some “nightmare” taunts on WandaVision, including one on “The Series Finale”. But perhaps even more likely, this points to Chthon, an Elder God from Marvel Comics. There, Chthon is the originator of not only Darkhold, but also the source of Chaos Magic – the same one that the Scarlet Witch was revealed to have. In the comics, it was Chthon who imbued Scarlet Witch with his Chaos Magic, designed as a means of one day re-entering the world when his powers are fully released. And, likewise, Darkhold intended to give him a foothold in reality, so that he could potentially return.

It all fits with what WandaVision did, and certainly what its post-credit scenes show. Marvel explained that Scarlet Witch has Chaos Magic, but not as she does, and revealing Chthon (or an amalgam of Elder Gods, at least) how the being behind him would make sense given the setting. This would then lead very well to Doctor Strange 2, in which Wanda is confirmed to appear. Given that it is bringing the “Multiverse of Madness”, then there must be a main and powerful cause for it, and one that needs Wanda and Strange to come together. The more Wanda uses the Fortress of Darkness and his Chaos Magic, the easier it will be for Chthon to break through, because the walls of reality become much thinner. And since Chthon can rewrite reality on an even bigger scale than Wanda, it is not beyond him that he has found a way to bring the twins back – or at least, create the voices – in order to torment the Scarlet Witch in order to push her in breaking those walls and letting it pass.

Given that Doctor Strange is on his way to becoming the MCU’s Sorcerer Supreme (a title that received an honorable mention at the end of WandaVision), and is a Master of Mystic Arts, then all of that would fall straight into his wheelhouse as something that he would have to try to fix it. Thus, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness can see Wanda releasing Chthon and tearing up the multiverse, and Wanda and Strange working to stop him. Darkhold is also the source of things like vampires in Marvel as well, and as soon as these cracks appear, more can arise. It was previously theorized that Doctor Strange 2 could introduce vampires to the MCU before Blade, and that may be how they do it.

For the twins themselves, there are ways to return. It may be that Chthon returns them to reality in an attempt to strike a deal with the Scarlet Witch, or that there is another way they can be rewritten. Since Marvel is apparently building for Young Avengers, and Billy and Tommy – like Wiccan and Speed - are an important part of that, so it would be a big surprise if their versions weren’t among the MCU’s Young Avengers team. Having Wanda hear their voices on the WandaVision post-credit scene, this establishes the basis that they can still survive even without Hex (it is important to note that, unlike Vision, WandaVision does not show what happens to them). Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was able to see them properly restored, further configuring the Young Avengers and the future of the MCU.
