Randall Park admits that he is just as surprised as everyone else to be back in the Marvel cinematic universe.

After starring as the FBI agent obsessed with card tricks Jimmy Woo in 2018’s Ant-Man and the Wasp, he assumed this would be his only appearance on a Marvel project.

But then “WandaVision” appeared.

As we can see in the fourth episode (“We Interrupt This Program”) of the hit Disney Plus series, G-Man is back, this time investigating the case of a missing person in Westview, New Jersey, who Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen ) has taken control. We watch as he and Dr. Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings) try to find out what’s going on and whether SWORD agent Monica Rameau (Teyonah Parris) is well after being sucked into town.

Insider spoke to Park on Monday about his return to the MCU. We asked him if he thought jumping to DC to star in “Aquaman” would stop him from making Marvel work, how he learned the impressive card trick he shows in the episode (no, that was not CGI), and if he thinks Agent Woo was a victim of Thanos’ snap.

Park has a theory as to why Jimmy Woo was not the victim of Thanos’ snap

Jason Guerrasio: Have you ever asked if Jimmy was the victim of Thanos’ snap?

Randall Park: I did and I never got a clear answer. [Laughs.] So, I’m not sure. But I have my theories.

Give me a theory.

That maybe it wasn’t because I needed to learn the card trick. He had to have that time.

Jimmy Woo’s card trick in the episode is a tip for “Ant-Man and the Wasp.” Was it written or did you suggest it?

That was there. Marvel, you know, they make all the connections, so it was there. When I read it, I was very happy to see that.

Park learned how to do that card trick in ‘WandaVision’

Was that CGI or did you learn to do the card trick?

It was not me.

Be serious.

I’m serious! In fact, a magician taught me that and I really worked on it a lot before that scene because I had to get it right.

Did it take weeks or months to download it?

Ah, really a few days. In fact, it is not as difficult as it looks.

Never tell that to anyone.

Yes, you’re right. I can’t reveal how I did it. [Laughs.]

Was there room for improvisation in the episode?

There was definitely a collaborative experience. I think we played here and there, but nothing really substantial. The script, as it was, was brilliant. I mean, what could you add to that?

Park loves that Jimmy Woo’s questions in the episode mirror what the audience is asking

People on social media are enjoying how Jimmy writes the questions on the whiteboard, because they are questions we literally ask in three episodes. It’s fun to be on a show that gets so caught up in the audience that in a scene like this they know the fans will love it.

It feels incredible. When this idea and the concept of the program were first introduced to me, I was very impressed, but I also thought: how are they going to do that? Will the public be involved all the time? But Jac Schaeffer, the creator, and the entire team, were able to put these weird things happening throughout the episodes that keep you engaged and make you want to watch more in order to get the answers.

And for me, I’m committed because I’m a fan of classic sitcoms. But for fans who may not like these old shows, there is enough to keep them interested.

Were you worried before joining the cast that maybe Marvel wouldn’t want to work with you anymore because you jumped into the DC world and starred in “Aquaman” as Dr. Shin?

[Laughs.] Not really. To be honest, I did a general meeting with Marvel after “Ant-Man and the Wasp” and that sort of thing doesn’t always lead to anything. So, part of me was really happy to have been in a Marvel movie and I really didn’t expect to be back on a Marvel project. But when they called me for this, I said, “Oh, yes.”

Dr. Shin Aquaman Warner Bros

Yes, Randall Park also plays a character from a DC Comics movie.

Warner Bros.

Park did not say whether his character Dr. Shin will return in “Aquaman”

Will we see Dr. Shin in the next film “Aquaman”?

I don’t know if I can talk about it –

This means yes.

[Laughs.] Possibly. Maybe not. Who knows.

But honestly, that has to be the right to brag about it to your actor friends: “I’m getting that MCU check and DC Comics check.” It has to be good.

I don’t bring much – but I feel good!

Are you someone who grew up reading these comics and is now making a living in this world, how do you feel?

It’s wild. I was thinking about it. I would go to the comic book store here in LA, the Golden Apple, there was a call called Hi De Ho, I would just go to these comic book stores and just be immersed in these worlds and there I would be with these characters, so just to see the development of Marvel Studios over the years and seeing these characters come to life on the screen was just mind-blowing for me. And then being a part of it, it’s crazy for me. It is the biggest emotion for me.
