“Who is Mephisto?” “When will Mephisto appear?” “Is this character / rabbit / bush really Mephisto?” These were just a few of the resounding (and irritating) fan theories that circulated on the Internet during this period. WandaVision aired, although there was no indication that the Marvel supervillain would appear. It was an idea that fans developed in their heads while WandaVision towards its conclusion (without Mephisto), but that did not even occur to the writer and executive producer Jac Schaeffer, who revealed that she hadn’t even heard of the character until the press tour came along and suddenly, everyone was asking about Mephisto.
Fan theories were the bane, although some may say a blessing, of WandaVisionexistence of. In some cases, the creators of the Disney + series have entertained or entertained fan theories, but some have actually had no influence on what was on the show itself. One was the supposed “hints” about Mephisto, a demon lord who often clashed with Wanda Maximoff in the comics, and a character Schaeffer was not familiar with until the press tour, Schaeffer told Mashable.

Throughout the series, references to the “devil” were spread, which fans interpreted as clues that Mephisto would appear, or was the secret identity of one of the many supporting characters. But all of these were just coincidences, said Schaeffer:
“Why do we talk so much about the devil? This is a real coincidence. He was never part of our storytelling conversations. We are very clear that the great evil is pain. And then the external evil is Agatha. So, as a spectator and lover of the series and the characters, I wanted nothing more than that ”.
So, while the devil may be the details, it’s clear that fan speculation shouldn’t be. Even the theories that turned out to be correct – such as Agnes’ real identity as the show’s Big Bad Agatha Harkness – were on somewhat shaky ground, as it was recently revealed that Schaeffer and co. he only decided to make Agatha the “external” villain later in the game. The only constant – on the show and in real life – is sadness and how we evolved from it. And that’s all we should be doing WandaVision.
