Carl and Ellie Fredricksen’s ballad was one of the most moving film sequences of the 2000s. Pixar’s opening montage Above took us through the couple’s lifelong love affair, ups and downs. More infamously, it ended Ellie’s death. So few who have seen Pixar’s Above you can remember your opening montage without words without shedding a tear. And this is due in large part to his wonderful music, composed by the great Michael Giacchino.
Now, this unforgettable score meets the new company of another couple whose love story ends too soon: Wanda and Vision. If you saw the end of WandaVision, you may have experienced yet another outbreak of vicarious grief. Well, enjoy a little more! The TikToks under the artist stringbeans25 (which we found at The Mary Sue) combine two scenes from WandaVision with the music of Abovemoving introduction. They will cause a heavy sigh, to say the least. First, Wanda’s break from “Previously On”, the penultimate episode of the series.

And perhaps even more moving: the couple’s fateful farewell. The cadenced tones work especially beautifully with the sight literally disappearing in Wanda’s arms.

In between Avengers: Age of Ultron and Infinite War, we saw Wanda and Vision slowly warming up. They eventually got involved in the most unlikely of novels, just to say a premature goodbye thanks to Thanos’ transgressions. WandaVision it gave us more time with the couple, allowing us to see them delight in each other’s company and their peculiarities.

So that second – in fact, third – goodbye at the end of the series was the most moving of all. And it becomes doubly accompanied by the composition of Giacchino da Above opening. Granted, the Above the song could bring new weight to Hulk by attacking Loki like a rag doll, even. But perhaps a more appropriate foray would be another farewell from Marvel. Stringbeans25 also applied the Above music for Tony Stark’s farewell to Peter Parker at the end of Infinite War.

And yes, this is also incredible. We hadn’t figured it out until now, but Marvel really turned tough goodbyes into a business.
