We still don’t know who is behind WandaVisionseemingly perfect alternative reality – Wanda is the architect? Or could this be the work of a malevolent force? – but the Disney + series is clear about who runs the suburban city within it.
In the second episode, entitled “Don’t Touch That Dial”, we were introduced to Dottie Jones (Buffy the Vampire SlayerEmma Caulfield), a figure like Regina George who, according to Agness (Kathryn Hahn), is the “key to everything” in Westview.
She is married to Phil (who was fired by Vision’s chief in the first episode, “Filmed Before a Live Studio Audience”) and does not particularly like the series’ titular heroes. (“I heard things about you, you and your husband, Vision,” she said to Wanda during an icy conversation.) It is unclear what her role will be as the story begins, but judging from her memorable appearance, she is just beginning .
“The whole thing is really fun,” Caulfield told TVLine.
A shocking scene in the gazebo suggested that there is much more to Dottie than she is revealing. When Wanda said she didn’t want to hurt, the well-dressed housewife said she didn’t believe her. The two women were interrupted by Randall Park’s FBI agent Jimmy Woo, calling Wanda on the radio. The confused moment apparently removed Dottie from her sitcom character, and she questioned Wanda’s identity before breaking a glass in her hand, cutting herself in the process. Returning to the character, Dottie made an impromptu joke about blood stains, and the moment was quickly forgotten.
“It’s incredibly disconcerting for Dottie to hear [the voice in the radio] as it is for Wanda. We are both going through a surreal moment for very different reasons, ”explains Caulfield. “But in the end, it’s scary for both of us, and there’s that element of regaining control of ourselves.”
This bizarre moment is one of several that made fans anxious about Westview’s resident queen bee. In another, Wanda and Vision gave a disastrous but hysterical magic show, which briefly featured a fluffy white rabbit. The cameo was interpreted as a nod to Caulfield’s lover Buffy character Anya, who famously feared rabbits in the Joss Whedon series. However, Caulfield reveals that she did not Buffy connection until it was pointed at her.
“I shot and didn’t get it. I had nothing to do with the rabbit. This is Wanda’s action. It is his magical act with Vision. I didn’t get it, ”she says. Caulfield reveals that she texted WandaVision creator Jac Schaeffer, with whom she previously worked on the 2009 science fiction film Stopwatch, to ask if this was an intentional reference.
“She would have said something if that was her intention, to put that little Buffy Easter egg there. She never told me anything about it, so I think it’s pure coincidence, ”she adds, while observing that“ it would make sense for someone to throw a fun little Easter egg in there like that ”.
