“And that’s more than 30% of your total footprint in Florida, which is a really good start,” said DeSantis. “So about 25,000 doses for Walmart’s part of the mission. And I think they have a big plan. They are spreading it everywhere. “

In all, Florida is expected to receive 65,300 doses through the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program, 25,000 of which will go to Walmart and Sam’s Club stores. With 119 sites sharing about 25,000 doses, each site would receive about 210 doses if they were evenly distributed.

“You don’t have to be a Sam’s Club member to get a chance at the Sam’s Club pharmacy, which we obviously appreciate very much because we want it to be as widely available as possible,” said DeSantis.

Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings announced on Monday that 17 Walmart and Sam’s Club stores in Orange County will be part of the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program. At the time, the mayor said the stores would be vaccinating around 300 people a day.

Publix and Winn-Dixie will also receive more doses of vaccines thanks to the federal program, according to the governor.

“Publix will also receive more doses now than it received from the state alone, and therefore they will also expand,” said DeSantis. “So, now they are in 325 pharmacies in 23 counties. As of the end of this week, they will be in nearly 600 state stores across the state in 41 counties. “

A statement from the governor’s office clarified that there are currently 324 Publix sites offering vaccines through its partnership with the state and 269 new sites would begin offering doses with their federal government allocation. At all 593 Publix sites across the state they will be administering vaccines. Publix operates 756 pharmacies across Florida.

DeSantis did not say how many doses Publix or Winn-Dixie would receive from the federal government.

The Publix website now lists the availability of appointments reaching Brevard, Flagler, Lake, Marion, Orange, Osceola, Polk, Seminole, Sumter and Volusia counties. You can find more details about these appointments and locations here.

Winn-Dixie will offer vaccines in 43 of its locations, including stores in Brevard, Lake, Marion, Sumter and Volusia counties, according to the governor’s office. It is not known how many doses the supermarket chain is being destined by the federal government. You can find a complete list of locations that offer appointments here.

The doses that arrive in Florida from the federal program will add to the 325,000 doses that the state has already allocated, according to the governor. This would raise the state’s total allocation to about 390,300 doses.

However, even with the additional doses coming from that federal program, DeSantis predicted that it would be some time before the state’s vaccination plans expanded beyond health workers, first responders and the population aged 65 and over.

“This is putting us in an interval where it will take a few more weeks to really beat, probably, all the veterans who really want this,” said DeSantis. “I know that there are people who are not in their 65s or older, who are … eager to get it. We want to take this to you. “

People who want to make an appointment at Walmart locations can go to walmart.com/covid or samsclub.com/covid for appointments at Sam’s Club locations.
