Walmart, Sam’s Club to administer COVID-19 vaccine in Texas

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Walmart and Sam’s Club pharmacies have announced that they will begin administering COVID-19 vaccines in Texas from February 12.

Pharmacies will be vaccinating individuals who are eligible for the vaccine according to state and federal guidelines. In Texas, those in Phase 1A and 1B qualify for the COVID-19 vaccine. Qualified customers can schedule a vaccine appointment on Walmart and Sam’s Club websites as soon as appointments are available. You do not need to be a member of Sam’s Club to sign up for an appointment.

“The Federal Retail Pharmacy Program is another important step in the public health effort to vaccinate Texans,” said Dr. John Hellerstedt, commissioner in the Texas Department of Health Services. “This means more vaccines available to more people in more places, and we appreciate the willingness of pharmacies to help vaccinate our priority populations.”

“Ninety percent of the country lives ten miles from a Walmart. We are committed to helping people live better – and healthier – in Texas, and we take this role very seriously, ”said Dr. Cheryl Pegus, executive vice president for health and wellness. “We want to help the country reopen, but we can only achieve this through widespread COVID-19 vaccination. We are proud to work together with the federal government, states, communities, customers and associates to expand access to the vaccine and achieve this goal. “

It is unclear how many doses were sent to local stores, but Walmart says that initial supplies will be limited.
