Walmart pharmacies in Tennessee now offer COVID-19 vaccines

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) – As of Friday, people can get COVID-19 vaccines at select Walmart pharmacies across Tennessee.

This is part of a new federal retail pharmacy program to distribute the vaccine more quickly, and 121 Walmart pharmacies will be part of the program.

These vaccines will be free, but only by appointment. It will be based on the stage of the distribution process your county is in – for example, in Davidson County, people 70 and older can now start making appointments to get yours. Click here to schedule an appointment.

“When we look at geographic distribution across the state, there are 150 Walmarts in almost every county,” said Dr. Lisa Piercey, Tennessee Department of Health Commissioner. “Particularly, in our suffering [and] our rural counties, they are much more likely to have Walmart than other drugstore chains. “

Dr. Piercey said another 30 Walmart pharmacies in the state are expected to start vaccinating in the coming weeks. She said that two-thirds of the population over 70 have not yet been vaccinated.

These vaccines are in addition to those that the state is already receiving. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) worked with the states to choose different pharmacies and were selected based on several factors, such as their ability to reach people most at risk of actually falling ill due to COVID-19.
