The stories from Walgreens and CVS will offer more cororonavirus vaccines to eligible individuals at participating locations across the Bay Area, after receiving tens of thousands more doses from the federal government.
Both companies received an additional 49,000 vaccines each for their California stores through the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program. Vaccination in some Walgreens started Wednesday. Eligible groups can make an appointment for a vaccine at participating CVS pharmacies starting on Wednesday, with vaccinations starting on Thursday.
Health professionals, long-term residents, people over 65, teachers, day care workers, emergency workers, food and farm workers can get vaccinated in California starting on Wednesday. However, some teachers, grocery workers and first responders may not take doses of the first dose for another two or three weeks in San Francisco, because many departments and public health providers are prioritizing doses of the second dose.
Here’s how you can schedule an appointment with Walgreens and CVS:
• Walgreens
Qualified individuals must create an online Walgreens account to schedule an appointment.
To schedule an appointment, visit Walgreens.com/ScheduleVaccine or call 1-800-Walgreens or 1-800-925-4733 to find a list of participating stores in the Bay Area. Walgreens does not accept visitors.
If appointments are not available, individuals must create an account to sign up to receive alerts about the availability of appointments.
“Vaccine supplies are still very limited, but they will be increasing. Please be patient when trying to schedule appointments, as consultations will also be limited, ”said Walgreens in a statement.
• CVS
CVS will add another 40 sites in California, including several in the bay area, which will begin administering vaccines on Thursday, according to spokeswoman Monica Prinzing.
Individuals can make an appointment starting on Wednesday at CVS.com, through the CVS Pharmacy app or by calling 1-800-746-7287.
The list of specific pharmacies will be available on CVS.com as more vaccines and consultations become available.
“Active stores also change based on the supply of the vaccine,” said Prinzing. “Customers should continue to check availability on CVS.com.
