Vice President Kamala Harris burst out laughing on the Senate stage last week, when she had to refer to herself in the third person while swearing to replace her.
The laugh came moments after she sat down first as president of the Senate now controlled by Democrats, and after she spoke these words:
“The chair presents the Senate with two election certificates for the state of Georgia and a nomination certificate to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of former Senator Kamala D. Harris of California.”
Clearly enjoying herself, she laughed out loud behind her face mask while many of the senators and officials in the chamber joined in laughter and applause.
“Yes, that was very strange,” she said of the third-person referral, giving another laugh before preaching the new term senators.
