Virginia’s school system cancels Dr. Seuss, citing racial ‘nuances’ in writings: report

The famous American children’s author Dr. Seuss is now considered very controversial for one of Virginia’s largest school districts, reveals a new report.

For more than two decades, Dr. Seuss’ birthday was celebrated in schools as Read Across America Day – a day dedicated to the importance of reading and literacy. The day falls on Dr. Seuss’ birthday in honor of the impact author, whose books have helped countless children learn to read around the world.

But, following pressure from activists, public schools in Loudon County are reportedly canceling Dr. Seuss’s annual celebration.

“Realizing that many schools continue to celebrate ‘Reading Day in America’ in partial recognition of Dr. Seuss’ birthday, it is important to be aware of research that can challenge our practice in this regard,” said Loudoun County Schools in an announcement reported by Daily Wire.

“As we become more culturally responsive and racially aware, all construction leaders should know that in recent years there has been research revealing radical connotations in the books and illustrations drawn by Dr. Seuss,” continued the school district.

Learning for Justice, a liberal education advocacy group, would be behind the pressure campaign against the famous child author. The organization calls itself a group that seeks to “defend the mission” of the leftist Southern Poverty Law Center, according to its website.

MELANIA TRUMP REACHES BACK IN THE LIBRARY THAT REJECTED DR. SEUSS BOOKS AS ‘RACIST’

Learning for Justice cited a study by St. Catherine University that claimed that Dr. Seuss’s books are covered with “orientalism, anti-blackness and white supremacy” in a published magazine article.

The group also claimed that non-White characters in the books were “subservient” to White characters.

This is not the first time that Dr. Seuss has been subject to cancellation.

Former First Lady Melania Trump fired at a Massachusetts elementary school librarian in 2017, who claimed that the illustrations in Dr. Seuss’ books – usually cartoon animals or fantastic creatures – were examples of “racist propaganda”.

The Loudoun County Public Schools did not immediately respond to Fox News’ request for comment on this article.
