Virginia Tech men’s basketball suspends Tyrece Radford indefinitely

BLACKSBURG, Virginia – Virginia Tech has indefinitely suspended senior guard Tyrece Radford from all activities on the men’s basketball team.

In a statement on Monday, school officials said Radford failed to maintain “the high standards that Virginia Tech has for its students and athletes.”

The statement also said there would be no further comment until the matter was resolved.

Radford, a 6-foot-2 guard from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, is second in the Hokies in scoring (11.1 ppg) and rebounds (6.3). He started all 14 games this season for 20th place, Virginia Tech.

He had 18 points and 12 rebounds when the Hokies won the then no. 19 Duke 74-67 on January 12, prompting Blue Devils coach Mike Krzyzewski to say that Radford was “the best player on the court”.

“Double-double,” said Krzyzewski, “but his intensity, how hard he played, really helps his team immensely.”
