Virginia Kroger’s location accidentally distributed empty doses of COVID-19

A Kroger clinic in Virginia mistakenly injected empty syringes into customers on Monday, instead of giving them the actual COVID-19 vaccine.

Less than 10 clients who were scheduled to receive the vaccine at The Little Clinic, one of the company’s mobile clinics in Chesterfield County, were affected by the error, a Kroger spokesman confirmed to FOX Business.

“The TLC location in our store in Midlothian, Virginia, injected empty VanishPoint syringes into a small number of patients instead of the COVID-19 vaccine,” said the spokesman.

The company originally thought that customers were injected with saline instead of the vaccine, calling it an “honest mistake”, WTVR reported. But it turned out that the syringes did not contain anything at all.

The professional who applied the blanks thought that all the syringes were properly filled with the vaccine before the consultations, according to the point of sale.

However, customers were immediately informed of the accident and have since received an adequate COVID-19 injection, according to Kroger.

The clinic is “investigating the matter to prevent a similar situation from recurring in the future,” said the spokesman.

The Virginia Department of Health is also “aware of this incident”.

In late December, Kroger – one of the retail pharmacies selected by President Biden’s Federal Retail Pharmacy Partnership – announced that it would supply the COVID-19 vaccine nationwide in 2,200 pharmacies and 220 clinics.

Since then, the company has announced that it has been able to deliver 1 million doses a week to pharmacies and clinics in stores and at external mass vaccination events.
