Virginia attack and escape kills off-duty police officer

A 33-year-old veteran of the Henrico Police Department died in a hit-and-run accident while on vacation in Virginia on Saturday, officials said.

Donald Lambert Jr., who served as the department’s special operations captain, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“We are deeply saddened by Captain Lambert’s tragic and premature loss”, Chief of Police Henrico Eric English said Saturday.

“He was a selfless leader, mentor and friend who served our community with pride and dedication for almost 34 years. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, colleagues and friends.”
