Viral video shows OU football star beaten by man trained in MMA, investigating police

A college football star is recovering after almost losing his eye in a fight with an MMA-trained man earlier this month in Norman, Okla.

Police are investigating after Oklahoma Sooners wide receiver Spencer Jones was violently beaten in a video that quickly went viral after it was posted last Friday.

Jones and another man appear to instigate the fight, cursing and pushing two other men. After the other man pushes one of the two men, Jones is quickly punched and brought to the floor. The man who punched Jones knocks him down and arms a rear naked choke. The man who pushed him strangles the other man, who is wearing a hat.

According to daily life, Jones’ lawyer said Jones needed to rebuild his left orbital bone in a four-hour surgery after being punched in the face several times during the fight, which was reported to the police last Tuesday, February 16. . Jones’ lawyer, Woodrow “Woody” Glass said the footballer was trying to be a “peacemaker” when the fight took place.

“He was trying to slow the situation down,” said Glass. “But, unfortunately, the climb was not slowed, despite his best efforts, and he became the victim of this violent attack that you saw.”

After the video was posted, a man identified on Twitter as Braden Brown responded, writing that he and his brother were involved in the fight and defended their actions.

“WE ARE NOT fighters at any university, we have fought since we wore diapers and MMA / Cage Fighting since we were 12,” wrote Brown. “Unfortunately, they didn’t give us any options. We show moderation. “

Brown declined to comment when contacted by MMA Fighting.

By police report obtained by MMA Fighting, two charges of assault and battery are being investigated and all parties to the alleged incident have been identified. The officer assigned to the case made contact with Jones. No arrests were made in the case, by TMZ.

Several MMA fighters took part in the video, including Ben Askren, who said he was overwhelmed with messages. Askren is preparing for a boxing match with YouTube star Jake Paul.

Jones, a senior redshirt, was honored academic of the All-Big 12 first and appeared in all 11 OU games in 2020.
