Violent collision in Detroit rips the car in half and kills 3

DETROIT – The police are investigating an accident that killed three people a few blocks from Detroit police headquarters.

The accident happened just before 11pm on Thursday.

The violent collision spit a vehicle in half, with the front in the middle of Michigan Avenue and the back wrapped in a lamppost on the east side.

Larry and Tahisha Smith had just left MGM Casino when they came across the accident.

“We heard the noise, we didn’t know exactly what it was,” said Tahisha. “When we got there, we saw the hood and another part of the car destroyed.”

Larry, a retired military veterinarian with 15 years of service, took action. He tried to perform first aid, but to no avail.

Police said two people at Mercury Sable were pronounced dead at the scene. An 87-year-old man driving a Cadillac was rushed to the hospital, where he died.

The investigators are those who have seen the carnage and are still trying to find out what happened.

“I don’t see how anyone could have caused an accident like that,” said Larry. “He had to be going at more than 100 miles an hour.”

“It was something I never want to see again,” said Tahisha. “My heart is with the family because this is a difficult way to lose someone.”

Police said the most intriguing aspect of the collision was that both vehicles were traveling west on Michigan Avenue at the time of the collision.

There were reports of two people who survived the accident and who allegedly fled the scene, but police are still working to confirm that this is true.

Anyone with information regarding this accident should call the Detroit Police Department Fatal Squad at 313-596-2260 or Crimes Stoppers at 1-800-Speak Up.
