Sandra Scully, wife of iconic Los Angeles Dodgers announcer Vin Scully, died at age 76 after fighting Lou Gehrig’s illness.

Sandra died at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles after a battle of years against ALS.

‘The family appreciates everyone’s thoughts and prayers; however, they request privacy at this time, ‘said a family representative. Any donations must be sent to the UCLA / ALS Department of Neuromuscular Diseases on behalf of Sandra.

The Cascade native, Virginia, leaves the 93-year-old Hall of Fame baseball commentator, whom she was married for 48 years after they were married in November 1973.

The couple had a child together, Catherine, and were the parents of five children from previous marriages, according to the AP. They have 21 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Vin told the AP last summer about the battle for his wife’s health: “She is really inspiring, her faith is extremely important and I think that is the main reason why she stood her ground.”

Dodgers President and CEO Stan Kasten, in a statement, ‘We are sad to hear of the passing of Sandi Scully, Vin’s loving wife and a dear member of the Dodger family.

Several Los Angeles sports media personalities posted memorials to Sandra, who was in the broadcast booth with Vin during her last home game in September 2016.

“Condolences to Vin Scully,” said sports announcer Fred Roggin. ‘His 47-year-old wife Sandi passed away from ALS.’

“This is devastating,” said Alanna Rizzo. ‘My heart breaks for the whole Scully family. RIP, Sandi. ‘

Athletic’s Molly Knight tweeted: ‘Sandi Scully died after a long illness. She used to go to all the Dodgers home games during the last years of Vin’s career and sit in the booth with him. This is so sad.’

Los Angeles Angels announcer Mark Gubicza tweeted: ‘Sending thoughts and prayers to Vin and the entire Scully family. Sandi has always been so nice to those who met her. Rest in peace, Sandi. Hands crossed. ‘

Scully retired after 67 years with the Dodgers in 2016.
