Villanova’s Collin Gillespie emerges victorious with a “serious” injury to his left knee; Magnetic resonance imaging on the farm

Villanova’s senior guard, Collin Gillespie, emerged from the No. 10 Wildcats’ 72-60 victory over Creighton on Wednesday night, with what coach Jay Wright called a “serious” knee injury.

Gillespie fell awkwardly during a 6-minute play, 38 seconds remaining for the first half and immediately grabbed his left leg. He tried to walk along the base line after the move, but then he left the bench and had to be helped to go to the locker room.

The school announced at halftime that Gillespie was out of the game with an injury to his left knee.

“It’s serious,” said Wright when asked about the injury during his post-game interview with FS1. “We don’t know exactly what it is. But it’s serious.”

Wright said later during his post-game press conference that Gillespie will undergo an MRI scan on Thursday morning.

Junior winger Brandon Slater started the second half in place of Gillespie and finished with 11 points in the Wildcats’ victory over the Big East regular season title.

Gillespie has been on the Wright team for the past three years, after playing a key role off the bench in the Villanova national championship team in 2018. He has an average of 14.4 points, 3.3 rebounds and 4, 7 assists this season, hitting 37.4% in the 3-point range.
