Vikings hiring DT Dalvin Tomlinson

The Vikings made their first big fuss at the free agency, hiring ex-giant Dalvin Tomlinson for a two-year deal valued at $ 22 million.

Tomlinson is a 6’3 ”, 320-pound defensive tackle who will likely play with the 3 technique alongside Michael Pierce on the nose. The pair may become the most dominant defensive tackle duo the Vikings have had since the Williams Wall in the mid-2000s.

Dalvin Tomlinson is stepping out of his rookie contract and just turned 27 last month. He was picked in the second round in 2017, outside Alabama, and according to the PFF, Tomlinson had scores of at least 75.1 in each of his four seasons with the Giants. He also hasn’t lost a game due to injury in those four seasons.

Here is a link to an analysis of the film from Tomlinson’s 2020 game.

Tomlinson can also tackle his nose, and this versatility has been valued by the Line of Defense Technician and Co-Coordinator of Defense Andre Patterson of the Vikings. Tomlinson’s signature puts Shamar Stephen’s status in question, as Tomlinson would likely take Stephen’s position as initiator of the 3-technique.

This seems to be a good signing for a position and position group, which it needs most after last season. The Vikings continued to make moves to free up space at the limit, so there may be more free agent Vikings moves in the coming days.

Stay tuned.
