Videos show Florida school resource officer throwing student on concrete

Videos circulating on social media appear to show a Florida school resource officer throwing a student on the floor and handcuffing her to the horror of those watching.

The officer, identified as Deputy Ethan Fournier, can be seen in videos taken from different angles holding the girl’s hands behind her as he throws her onto the concrete of an outdoor walkway at Liberty High School in Kissimmee.

The girl’s head seems to hit the ground before it ricochets and she goes limp, again resting her head on the ground while the policeman cuffs him and another one sits on top of her. The students around him shout in disbelief.

District spokeswoman Dana Schafer told NBC News that the student was “examined” by paramedics at the school, but could not comment further on her condition.

Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez said during a news conference on Wednesday that the student was “fine”.

The Florida Police Department is conducting an independent criminal investigation into the incident, said Lopez.

He said the videos were preceded by “an interruption of a school function.”

“The student did not comply with legal orders. She went after another student and stood out there, ”said Lopez.

Fournier, who has no history of misconduct, is on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, according to the sheriff.
