Video shows the collapse of the balcony railing that killed 7 Bolivian students

Seven university students died and four were injured during a tragic incident in Bolivia when a railing collapsed, causing them to fall from a fourth-floor balcony.

The wild video of Tuesday’s incident showed a mass of students from the Public University of El Alto huddled on the porch before the railing gave way.

The tragedy took place in the university’s financial science building, when students tried to enter a classroom for an assembly.

The footage, obtained by The Sun, also showed a young woman pushing another one close to the railing just before she collapsed.

Bolivian Police Commander-General Jhonny Aguilera Montecinos said on Wednesday that the woman seen in the fight will be questioned as part of the investigation, local media reported.

Montecinos also attributed the cause of death to the victims as being due to “polytrauma”.

“We regret the tragedy that occurred at the Public University of #ElAlto (UPEA), where several deaths and injuries occurred,” said the president of Bolivia, Luis Arce wrote on Twitter.

“Our deepest condolences to the people of El Alto and to the suffering families. We look forward to the prompt clarification of the facts ”.
