Voters in Georgia stood in long lines on New Year’s Eve, the last day to vote at the start of the second round of the Peach State Senate.
Images of polling stations posted on social media showed long lines of Georgians snaking through buildings, trying to avoid election day traffic amid the coronavirus pandemic before the January 5 runoff.

A woman from Cobb County told NBC Reporter Priscilla Thompson arrived in line to vote at 6:30 am and waited an hour and a half before arriving at the polls.

More than 2.8 million Georgia residents have already voted by mail or by early vote on Thursday.
According to the Georgia Elections Division, that number represents more than a third of all registered voters in the state.
