Only two new words are said in NBC’s latest promotion for Elliot Stabler’s long-awaited return to Law and order-verse, but to be fair, they are two very good.
The brief but powerful preview, which aired on Thursday night, shows Elliot (Chris Meloni) arriving at what appears to be a crime scene. Although we don’t see him, we hear him call Liv (Mariska Hargitay), who turns around and speaks his name in return.
The emotion in his voice is comparable only to the excitement of the fans to see this iconic duo back after all these years. Meloni starred alongside Hargitay in the first 12 seasons of Law and Order: SVU, leaving before the 13th season on what he recently called an “inelegant” contract dispute.
Before the meeting is revealed, this new promotion takes us back to the couple’s early days, with Liv praising their “great relationship”. We are also forced to relive the devastating moment when Liv learned that he would no longer be her partner. (It’s okay now, we know how the story ends!)
The long-awaited Elliot and Liv reunion airs as part of a special event Law and Order: SVU crossover episode on Thursday, April 1 (9:00 pm, NBC). Next, will be the debut of the series of Law and Order: Organized Crime, The new NBC spinoff led by Meloni.
