Video captures the moment when cyclists attack the car in New York

A group of cyclists was filmed in New York attacking an SUV stopped at an intersection, breaking the hood, hitting the windshield and punching the side windows – while the terrified driver was sitting inside the house with his mother.

A 15-year-old boy was arrested in connection with the BMW attack that was stopped on Fifth Avenue and East 21st Street in Manhattan on Tuesday afternoon when the group surrounded the car, police confirmed on Thursday.

The driver, who just wanted to be identified as Max, 36, told NBC News New York that he and his 74-year-old mother feared for their lives during the attack, which started after one of the cyclists hit the back of his car.

“I said to myself: let them destroy the car. Let them take their anger out on the car,” he said.

But, he said, the attack escalated with one of the group members breaking the windshield, throwing glass at the car’s occupants. Max said it was when he found a vacancy, went ahead and waited for the police. NBC News did not confirm what happened before the video started and did not speak to the teenager accused of the attack.

The 15-year-old is facing charges of riots and criminal acts, police said.

Police told NBC New York that they believe the incident is related to another violent incident involving cyclists and a driver.

The New York Police Department said the investigation was ongoing.
