Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Friday accused Republican House minority leader Kevin McCarthy of “losing control of his caucus” after Democratic Congresswoman Cori Bush said Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene “scolded” her in a Capitol hall without a mask.
Ocasio-Cortez tweeted that McCarthy “has a responsibility to ensure that its members do not harm others”. Bush, a freshman from Missouri and organizer of the Black Lives Matter, tweeted early Friday, that she was relocating offices to be further away from Greene to protect the safety of her team.
“He is losing control of his caucus and allowing these threats to go unchecked while looking the other way, as members like @CoriBush feel so insecure that she must move offices just 3 weeks after the first term,” wrote Ocasio-Cortez.
Following that tweet, she added: “Changing offices is a huge and upsetting effort. Honestly, it shouldn’t even be Mr Bush who would have to change and endure all of that, it should be Greene – she is the one who poses a threat to others around her.”
Bush, Ocasio-Cortez and a few other Democrats are asking to expel Greene and other members of the Republican Party who spread electoral disinformation and helped incite the Capitol siege earlier this month.
In a video Greene posted on Friday that appeared to show his January 13 meeting with Bush, the Democrat can be heard shouting at Greene to put on his mask. Greene, whose nose and mouth were exposed despite strict rules requiring facial coverage in Congress, put a mask over her face and shouted at Bush that she was a “hypocrite” for bringing “positive COVID members here”.
Another person with Greene is heard saying to Bush: “Stop inciting violence with Black Lives Matter”.
It is not clear what “positive COVID members” Greene was referring to or why she accused Bush of “being a hypocrite”.
A Greene spokesman did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment.
