A report from last weekend indicated that the return of Broncos coach Vic Fangio for a third season is guaranteed and it seems that the same can be said about offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur.

Fangio dispatched Rich Scangarello after a year in office and hired Shurmur to lead the attack last year. The unit did not show much improvement and quarterback Drew Lock remains a work in progress, but Fangio said that Shurmur is a “great fit” wherever he wants the team to go.

“He has done a good job of mixing our race pass moves on the first runs, both the type of race we run and the short, intermediate and deep throws,” said Fangio, through Kyle Newman of Denver Post. “I think it has been a learning process for all of our boys. The players learning the system and Pat learning our players and what is the best formula, what is the best approach with the guys we have. I am excited about what Pat can bring to us in the future. “

The Broncos chose young players at various points in the attack and Shurmur believes that this season’s experience will be “a real bonus” when the Broncos return to work in 2021. If that bonus does not lead to better production, the status quo on the coaching staff will not it may go on for another year.
