Vergecast: mysterious lack of Google app updates and Apple virtual reality headset rumors

Every Friday, The Verge publish our main podcast The Vergecast to discuss this week in Border headlines. Here’s what The Vergein Nilay Patel, Dieter Bohn and Adi Robertson focus on the episode this week: the mysterious lack of iOS app updates from Google, the rumors about a VR / AR headset made by Apple and the gadget headlines you may have missed.

This week, users of iOS versions of Google apps received a warning claiming that the software was “out of date” and suggesting updates to current versions due to security risks. However, Google has not yet updated its applications and has not done so for several weeks. The Vergecast the team discusses whether this is related to the new mandatory privacy labels on the Apple App Store and what kind of advantage Google may be trying to gain.

In addition, it is another week of rumors of Apple products. Last week, the podcast plunged into the much-talked about Apple Car and potential manufacturers who would team up with the technology company to manufacture the vehicle. This week, they update which companies have played down these rumors, as well as what other much-talked about product Apple may be developing – a VR headset.

There is much more discussed in this episode – like a glimpse of what Android 12 might look like, a laptop with seven screens and a North Dakota account that can force alternative app stores on the iPhone – so listen here or on your favorite player podcast to the full discussion.
