A vehicle chase was still underway in Los Angeles on Tuesday night after more than five hours.
The video posted by FOX 11 in Los Angeles showed a silver Chevy Malibu with Oklahoma license plates traveling through the area, with several police vehicles behind and news helicopters overhead.
The driver was said to be armed and dangerous, according to reports. The vehicle had at least three flat tires after hitting a split strip, KNBC-TV in Los Angeles reported.
What had been a high-speed chase earlier in the evening slowed down to less than 5 mph after the vehicle was damaged, FOX 11 reported. Police were carefully chasing because the driver was believed to be in possession of a gun. said the report.
The chase caution was in line with police training, said Joe Buscaino, a Los Angeles city councilman who served as a Los Angeles police officer.
He noted that vehicle chasing occurred in a period of rising crime in the country’s second largest city.
“I think it will get worse before it gets better, unfortunately,” said Buscaino.
