Vanderbilt’s Jack Leiter plays without batting against South Carolina

What stood out in Leiter’s performance

Mitch Light, senior college football editor: The most impressive part of Leiter’s departure was the fact that he did most of his work with the fastball – all 16 eliminations were in a fastball. He even mentioned in the post-game interview that he didn’t have a good feeling about breaking the ball until the sixth or seventh inning. In addition, this was the first start of his career at the SEC, after the entire league schedule was wiped out last year due to the pandemic.

Scouting report in Leiter

Keith Law, senior baseball writer: Leiter is a second-year student eligible for his age, and although he may not be the most famous holder of the Commodore now, he is his best candidate, with the best combination of material, command and delivery in the project. Leiter can launch at 95-96 mph and hit his points even at that speed, with a positive break ball and a delivery that he repeats very well to maintain that command in the long run. His father, uncle (Mark) and cousin (Mark Jr.), all launched in the majors, and he has the track record – Jack was a talent in the first round of 2019 outside of high school – to give teams the extra level of comfort they want when taking someone so high on the project.
