Valve cancels Artifact 2.0, makes existing versions free

The valve stopped development in Artifact 2.0, an updated version of its Dota card game, announced the company on Thursday. Artifact originally launched in November 2018, where the initial potential has been undermined by a complex economy that Artifact’mechanics s. Valve restarted the project in March 2020 and started testing Artifact 2.0.

In a post published on ArtifactValve’s Steam community page wrote:

While we are reasonably satisfied that we have achieved most of our game goals, we have not been able to take the number of active players to a level that justifies further development at this time. As such, we made the difficult decision to stop the development of Artifact 2.0 Beta.

Players can now download Artifact Classic or the Artifact 2.0 beta, which has been renamed Casting of artifacts, for free. No further updates will be made to either version.

“Technically Artifact Casting it remains an unfinished product, but much of what is missing is polish and art – the main gameplay is all there, ”said Valve. “Although the two games remain playable, we do not plan to send any more gameplay updates.”

The following set of changes will be made to Artifact Classic:

The game is free for everyone to play.

All players receive all cards for free. You will no longer be able to buy packs of cards.

Existing paid player cards have been converted into special versions of the Collector’s Edition, which will remain marketable. Marketplace integration has been removed from the game.

Tickets for paid events have been removed.

Customers who paid for the game will still win Collector’s Edition card packs to play; players who got the game for free, no.

About that, Artifact Casting has the following notes:

The game is free for everyone to play.

Players gain access to the cards when playing. All cards are obtained in this way; no card or package will be for sale and Artifact Casting the cards are not tradable.

All the final artwork of the card that was in the pipeline is now in the game.

The announcement of ArtifactThe end of development comes shortly after BioWare declares that it will no longer work Anthem Next, an equally problematic project. While some games, like the space simulator Nobody’s heaven, were able to recover with post-release updates, 2021 is proving that the feat is not simple, even for large studios.
